The “Cold Cellar” is a 10 m long cave with an entrance about 8 m high and 3 m wide. In summer a strong cold current blows away from the former inn creating a significant difference in temperature with nearby areas. The adjacent house was used as a cold room. The area to the west and above is characterized by mountain crevasses. A hiking trail with stairs leads here through. The dolomites of the Gutenstein Formation are massive blocks. "Kalter Keller” was declared a natural monument. We go further higher till we meet another path. The path is dedicated to the industrialist Carl von Linde, who made Berchtesgaden and especially the Obersalzberg his adopted home in the second half of the 19th century. Near the Obersalzberg documentation is Carl-von-Linde-Platz, which was built in 2008 by Berchtesgadener Markt and Linde AG. The Carl-von-Linde-Weg in the Berchtesgaden Alps is a pleasant hike on the Obersalzberg, which offers wonderful views of Schönau am Königssee, Watzmann, Berchtesgaden and Untersberg. Starting from the Obersalzberg documentation, it goes downhill for a few meters and then takes a long curve to the left to reach Carl-von-Linde-Weg. You hike on a narrow path through the forest on Obersalzberg without any major differences in altitude. After a few meters you cross the Obersalzberg toboggan run and reach the Alpengasthof Hochlenzer. We then continue on the mountain path to the Gasthaus Graflhöhe. If you follow the path, you come to a forest road that crosses the forest road. We continue on the forest road through a tunnel to the Klausbichel car park, which is at approx. 1,000 m. The rest of the hiking trail leads along a wooded ridge to Schrenizelam with beautiful views of the impressive west face of the Hoher Göll. Our next target is Brandkopf. Due to its easy accessibility and the fantastic view of the Königssee and the Steinernes Meer, the Brandkopf is a popular destination for hikers at any time of the year. Once we get there we may consider a stop by the Gasthof depending on what time is it. We then continue through a beautiful path that goes close to Weidbacher waterfalls. We hike further south on Königsweg to reach our final destination: Schönau am Königsee, having beautiful lake views on the way and thern at the famous romantic spot Malerwinkel.
