Wettersteinspitzen in the Wettersteingebirge are the easternmost foothills of the Wetterstein main ridge, which runs eastwards from Meilerhütte towards Mittenwald. They are formed by the Obere Wettersteinspitze (2298 m) in the west and the Untere Wettersteinspitze (also Gemskopf) (2151 m) in the east. The border between Germany and Austria runs across the two peaks.
Ascent: This is the only marked route to Obere Wettersteinspitze. From Mittenwald, the path leads to the Obere Wettersteinspitze past Lautersee and Ferchensee. To the west of Ferchensee begins trail 875, which leads south-west to the saddle of the Gemsanger. Some rock passages are secured with wire ropes. From there the marked path (UIAA I) leads to the summit.
Warning: The rock is quite brittle and any deviation from the route can become dangerous.
Descent: same as descent.
