From Steinberg am Rofan via the normal route (south climb) to the striking rock pyramid
Due to its free-standing location and its striking shape, the Guffert (2194 m) - also known as the Guffertspitze - is a peak that catches the eye from many mountains in the Bavarian and Tyrolean foothills of the Alps. The classic climb to the almost 2200 meter high summit cross leads up from the small hamlet of Steinberg and, thanks to the almost completely south-facing climb, is often doable early in the mountain hiking season after a winter with little snow, like this year.
Conversely, this means that on hot midsummer days you should set off as early as possible: the sun-exposed mountain pine slopes turn into a hot furnace at lunchtime. So be sure to take enough water with you, sure-footedness and a solid level of fitness are also required on the sometimes steep climb of around 1200 meters. As a reward for the strenuous climb, a sensational panorama awaits at the top, stretching from the green Bavarian foothills of the Alps over the Karwendel Mountains to the main Tyrolean Alpine ridge, where the Großvenediger stands out clearly on a clear day. No mountaineering lie, word of honor! By the way, it's worth spending a whole weekend in the mountaineering village of Steinberg to add more tours in the Rofan Mountains.
