Eschenlohe's side is quite exposed for a few hundreds meters (T4, maybe T5). I'd recommend to do it from Eschenlohe to Walchensee, because climbing the exposed part should be easier than descending it.
Definitely not a good idea doing it with snow (you may prefer go from / to Ohlstadt).
If there's no snow, no special gear is required. If you try it with snow, bring crampons for the exposed part.
Also, take care if you end at Walchensee, that'd be a pity to miss the last bus to Kochel.
