User provided description:
Translate to English: "The unknown number two
From the south to the Hochwanner, 2744 m
Not far from the hustle and bustle of the Zugspitze, the Hochwanner offers a wild,
quiet ascent on a partially marked route in a magnificent setting.
Starting point: Parking lot at Salzbach (last one
Parking lot in the Gaistal), 1240 m
Base / Refreshment: none on the way; a little off
the path: Rotmoosalm, 2030 m - www.rotmoosalm.info
Map: AV map 4/2 "Wetterstein - Mieminger Kette,
western sheet" 1:25,000; possibly additionally 4/3 eastern
Sheet
Route: Over the Salzbach, briefly south uphill
and on a marked trail (Adlerweg) upwards in the forest.
At the trail junction after about 15 minutes, follow
the Ganghoferweg to the left, then branch off
right and immediately left again in the open alpine terrain
(do not go to Hemermoosalm). Soon back in the forest
the path crosses the Loatenbach and continues
above into a dirt road. On this, although not very attractive,
but increasingly scenic road, you reach the old Rotmoosalm, 1904 m,
whose new building has been since 2009 on the Schönberg further east. Now
you hike on the trail into the saddle between Hoch-
wanner and Predigtstein, 2234 m, upwards. Subsequently,
the path describes a wide arc through the Kotbach-
kar. As soon as the path begins to descend (around 2120 m)
or at another suitable point (at the latest at
Mitterjöchl) leave the path and ascend off-trail
or on trail traces to the clearly pronounced ridge
which descends from the western part of the Hochwanner rock
formation towards Mitterjöchl. As indicated on the AV map
the lowest rock ridge is bypassed on the left on trail traces (partly cairns), then
the ascent traces lead to the right to the key passage
up, a several meters high chimney that
is climbed through (I, brittle, can also be bypassed to the left). Above the chimney
you continue to ascend to the right into the small basin below the summit
and ascend steeply through rocky terrain to the
summit ridge with the highest point. Descent like ascent.
Info: Between the Hochwanner and the next higher mountain, the Zugspitze, there is a - from the former's perspective - 700-meter deep col. Thus, the Hochwanner is undoubtedly an independent mountain or main peak - Germany's second highest. The often incorrectly referred to as such, the Watzmann, only comes in third place."
