Hirschberg is a 1668 meter high mountain in the Bavarian prealps south of the Tegernsee. The summit area is pretty wide and has panoramic views in all directions.
Reach of start point: As mentioned in directions, the best way to reach the start point (Scharling, Hirshbergweg) is by the bus 9556, which runs from Tegernsee train station (easily accessible by Bob trains).
Ascent from North side: The route starts at the bus station. From the bus station you have to go back a bit (20 m), where you will see a sign "Hirshbergweg". For some time the route follows an asphalt road with houses on its side.
After a kilometer or so, the asphalt road turns into a forest way. Follow the forest way all along. After an hour or so, a sign indicates the possibility of taking a shortcuts. There is also a small wooden ladder here, which might be covered by snow. In winter, it is probably preferable to skip this shortcut and going along the mountain road.
Finally, the mountain road becomes narrow, and you will see a bifurcation with signs "winterweg" and "sommerweg". The sommerweg is not recommended in winters as it is avalanche prone. Turn left to follow the winterweg, which is a steep zig zag path. Towards the end, there are cable to get the support (not because it is exposed, but because it is steep),
The end of winterweg leads to a wide platform, where we have the peak Kratzer (1545 m). Hirschberghaus is only 5 mins from here. The hut is open throughout the year (barring extreme weather) except on Tuesdays.
The peak Hirschberg is visible from here, and can be reached along a gentle slope in 30-45 minutes.
