This via ferrata spot is extremely accessible and ideal for practicing your skills or enjoying a quick escape after work. However, it's closed from March 1 to June 30 to protect nesting birds and during bad weather conditions.
Here’s a guide to the different routes available:
ROUTE 1 - Kapuziner-Gams Route (Challenging)
This demanding route starts on the right-hand side and is suitable for experienced climbers. It begins with a B/C difficulty, quickly escalating to D/E. The most intense part is the “Traverse of the Gods,” which requires significant strength. After this tough section, there’s a brief moment to rest before tackling a short C-rated climb, followed by a steep overhang leading to another D/E-rated ascent. This route is physically challenging and not recommended for beginners.
ROUTE 2 - Salewa Route (Sporty)
This route begins on the left side with a relatively easy B-rated start, but climbers will encounter a C-rated section early on. After this, the route leads to the intersection of Routes 1 and 2, where you can take a short break. From there, the climb continues up a C-rated slab and across a traverse to the Panorama Ladder, offering stunning views over the city of Salzburg. The final part is easier but still thrilling, making this a fun and scenic route for more experienced climbers.
ROUTE 3 - Bergspezl Route (Beginner-Friendly)
Also starting on the left like Route 2, this beginner-friendly option branches off at the intersection. It features a steady, easy A/B-rated ascent up a grassy slope, making it a great choice for novices or climbers looking for a relaxing route after a full day. The gentle incline and approachable difficulty level make this perfect for an enjoyable, laid-back climb.
ROUTE 4 - Aqua Salza Route (Practice Route)
This route is designed as a practice area, providing a safe space to get comfortable with via ferrata equipment. With a low A/B difficulty, it’s a great option for beginners learning the basics, as the risk of falling is minimal. It’s the perfect route for anyone looking to gain confidence and practice before tackling more challenging climbs.
Whether you're just starting out or a seasoned climber, the City Wall via ferrata offers an ideal escape for a short yet exciting adventure, right within the city.
