Rangiswanger Horn (1615 m) in the Hörner
group, which runs from north to south on the western side of the
Illertal, is a popular winter mountain that can be hiked both from
the west from the Ostertal and from the east from the Illertal . It is a
classic destination with a great view of the entire Allgäu main ridge and it is considered a popular and avalanche-proof snowshoe winter hike
and ski tour.
From Sonthofen we hike south west towards Sigiswang. From here we walk till
the tarred road opposite the inn Knusperhäusl
begins. After a few minutes we turn left at a signpost and
later at another signpost right and keep us always
to the signs "Kahlrückenalpe/Rangiswanger Horn".
Slowly the road becomes steeper and soon we have a free
View of the mountains around Sonthofen. After about an hour we reach the quite large building
the Kahlrückenalpe. Over an eroded path we finally climb
to the summit cross of the Rangiswanger Horn. At the top of the Rangiswanger Horn, 1,616 m, an extensive meadow peak
and a magnificent panoramic view await us again, which also extends over
into the western Gunzesried valley.
From the summit
we have a close look at the Nagelflühkette and the Hohen Ifen. In the east, there are now also the Aggenstein,
the Rote Flüh,
the Gimpel and Einstein, some peaks of the Tannheim mountain celebrities.
We then hike northeast on the Hörnerpanoramaweg till we reach Ofterschwanger Horn. From here we have a view to Allgäu main ridge, Daumen group, Grünten and to all Illertal.
We have a break at Weltcup Hut before hiking back down to Sonthofen.
