Snowshoeing from Tannenboden to Spitzmeilenhütte
This is a combination of these two snowshoeing routes:
"SchweizMobil Schneeschuhtrail Panüöl–Prodalp 731" and "WegWandern.ch Schneeschuhtour zur Spitzmeilenhütte". It's also shown on the page of Spitzmeilenhütte, more or less.
The main part is obviously the part from Panüöl to the Spitzmelilenhütte and back.
Spitzmeilenhütte (Tannbenboden > Spitzmeilenhütte) writes:
From Tannenboden, follow the winter hiking trail via Prodalp to Panüöl, Fursch and continue along the winter route to the hut.
In normal conditions (good visibility, groomed winter hiking trails to Alp Fursch, little to no track work from Alp Fursch), the routes from Tannenboden and Maschgenkamm can be described as easy. In deep snow or poor visibility, the times can double.
SchweizMobil 731 (Prodalp > Panüöl) has this, but take into consideration, that they'd start in Panüöl, whereas this route here "starts" in Prodalp (which is where they'd have terminated):
This scenic snowshoe trail leads at a leisurely pace from Panüöl down to Prodalp. Always in plain view: the impressive mountain panorama of Sarganserland. The snowshoe tour through idyllic winter scenery is ideal for beginners.
The snowshoe trail begins at the Panüöl alpine restaurant. What used to be a small tea hut is now a popular meeting place for winter sports enthusiasts and nature lovers. Enjoy fantastic views of the Spitzmeilen on the cosy sun terrace.
The tour begins with an easy ascent - ideal for a warm-up. The tour's highest point is reached at the foot of the Maschgenkamm. The following descent through the sunlit spruce forest is magnificent. Finally, you get to the groomed Prodalp-Panüöl winter hiking trail and follow it for a short while. The soft murmur of the mountain streams with their elegant ice pillars makes this a perfect winter idyll. With a bit of luck and a keen eye, you can observe snow hares around here. At the Rotenberg rest area, benches invite you to take a breather with views of the imposing Spitzmeilen area. Shortly after Rotenberg, the trail branches off to the right and leaves the winter hiking trail. Trudging through the deep snow, continue towards Prodalp. The trail flattens out, and you slowly approach Prodalp, bustling with wintertime activity.
Before descending to the mountain restaurant, you should take in the fantastic views for a moment: the Churfirsten peaks loom majestically before your eyes - the panoramic views of Selun, Frümsel, Brisi, Zuestoll, Schibenstoll and Hinderrugg are unparalleled. The snowshoe hike reaches its destination at the mountain restaurant. Prodalp is a fabulous place to end the tour and make the most of the afternoon sunshine.
WegWandern (Panüöl <> Spitzmeilenhütte) lastly has this:
The starting point of the snowshoe tour is the Tannenbodenalp in Flumserberg. From here, take the gondola lift up to Maschgenkamm, where you can stop off at the Maschgenkamm restaurant with its sun terrace. You can either walk down to Panüöl or take the chairlift. The Alprestaurant Panüöl (+41 81 710 12 47) also invites you to stop for refreshments. On the prepared winter hiking trail, the route is almost level to Alp Fursch (phone +41 76 698 17 59), where you can stop for refreshments and buy alpine products such as cheese, butter and more.
Now follow the red marker poles to avoid the steep slopes. Do NOT follow the summer trail if the avalanche situation is precarious! The sometimes steep ascent leads up to the Sässli and on to the Spitzmeilenhütte SAC (phone hut: +41 81 733 22 32), which sits like a square on the Mad-Platteau in wooden cladding. From the terrace you can enjoy a wonderful view of the striking Spitzmeilen and, on the other side of the hut, down into the Schilstal with the Churfirsten towering behind it. The hut offers particularly varied and very tasty SAC food.
The way back is the same as the way out, with great views of the Churfirsten. A great snowshoe hike all round!
