Starting point

Reachable with bus 9556 from Tegernsee train station. The bus stop is called Scharling Grundnerweg, it's a 20 minute ride from the train station. Easiest option is to go with a Bayenr ticket that includes both BOB + bus.

Bus station in Oberhof is called Oberhof/Naturkäserei, Kreuth. This is also on the line of the 9556 bus.

Route

The route can be done in winter. It doesn't go through any protected area. Snowshoes would be helpful if you go there in January / February. In March it wasn't required, even if a few participants had opportunities to use them. In winter conditions it is mandatory to have gaiters and proper waterproof hiking boots. It is also a good idea to bring crampons, especially for a steep part on the way down after Hirschberghaus (hut that is open the whole year). It is a very nice beginner friendly hike in summer.

I would advice you to do it from Kreuth to Oberhof, since there's a nice cheese factory in Oberhof. It closes at 5 pm in winter and 6 pm in summer (from 1st April onwards).
