The Schwaigeralm near Fischbachau is a well-known alpine pasture located almost in the valley and easily accessible. You can also take a longer loop with some elevation gain and beautiful views, and then hike up to the pasture. The trail runs entirely along good, wide forest roads and is only steep in short sections (the first few meters of ascent are the same as in Breitenstein), making it suitable for (mountain) strollers. The pasture itself has a small playground and a sanctuary with lots of animals, great for children! We weren't entirely convinced by the relatively small menu and the rather dark dining rooms with limited seating, but that's a matter of taste, of course :) After the refreshment stop, we continue on a sunny path past the Birkenstein pilgrimage church. All in all, a pleasant short hike.
