Hochries is a classical hike in Chiemgau alps. The route is a bit long, but is fairly straightforward. One must take care to follow the trail all the time as deviating from the trail may make the it more difficult than it intends to be. Since there is a cable car to the peak, it may be quite crowded.
Reaching the start point: There is a regular Meridian train from Munich to Prien am Chiemsee, from where one needs to take another regional train to Aschau, which is the start point.
Ascent: The first part of the route up to Frasdorfer huette is a steep zig zag path on a wide mountain road. The route becomes flat after this point, however one should stick to the trail and avoid lucrative shortcuts.
After walking on a gentle slope we exit the forest line. There is a massive rock formation on the left. A bit further, and we reach Riesenhuette. From here Hochries is already visible, although it feels it is too far away.
After 10 minutes walk from Riesenhuette, we reach the final stage of route. This part is quite steep, but wide. In snow, it will be very exhausting. A few meters below the hut, we encounter a peak cross, and then another one near the hut.
Descent: The same as ascent.
