Beautiful hike with breathtaking views of Kochelsee and Walchensee
Not the most exciting way to hike up the Herzogstand, but not too steep/dangerous and therefore well-suitable for winter/wet conditions as well as for beginners
Take the train to Kochel, there the Bus 9608 in the direction Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Urfeld-Jugendherberge. From there follow the mountain road up to Herzogstandhaus. The path gets narrower after Herzogstandshaus. A short trip (40 mins there and back) to Martinskopf is possible just after Herzogstandhaus.
Please check the bus connection before going! The busses tend to be less frequent out-of-season!
Herzogstandhaus - generally open all year, sometimes open weekends only - check for opening times - accommodation possible, but booking in advance necessary!
