A scenic route for summiteers! You’ll need to be in good physical shape to complete this jewel in the crown of Grächen’s snowshoe trails. As an option, you can cut out the initial ascent by taking the Fairytale Cable Car to the starting point. From Hannigalp above Grächen, you’ll then strap on your snowshoes and walk on a relatively flat trail until you reach Stafel. Here, you can enjoy wonderful views of several four-thousand-metre peaks, including the world-famous Matterhorn. At the Stafelbar, you’ll have a chance to recharge your batteries – you’ll need all of your energy for the next ascent.

Stamina is now a must. From Stafel, the snowshoe trail sets off in the direction of the Wannihorn. The trail to the top is very steep, but you’ll enjoy the peace and quiet as it leads through snow-covered forests. If you look carefully, you may be able to spot some native animals like chamois, ibex and deer.

Once you’ve reached the top, your efforts will be rewarded by wonderful views stretching from the Wannihorn to the Saas Valley and into the Valais mountain landscape, with the Bishorn, the Brunegghorn and the magnificent Weisshorn. The return journey follows the same route. Once you’ve finished the hike, you can take in the views of the Matterhorn again from the large sunny terrace of the Hannigalp family mountain restaurant.
