⚠️ Safety Information

1. Route Difficulty & Exposure

  • The Jubiläumsgrat is extremely exposed and technically demanding. Climbing sections reach UIAA III, requiring hands-on scrambling and route-finding skills.

  • Retreat is difficult once committed to the ridge, no escape routes other then Bruntalgrat!

2. Required Experience & Skills

  • Solid alpine climbing experience on exposed ridges.

  • Competence in rock climbing protection, using ropes, slings, and carabiners.

  • Comfort with exposed traverses and mixed terrain (rock, snow patches early summer).

3. Equipment

  • Helmet, harness, gloves, via ferrata set for short sections.

  • Alpine boots with good grip, gloves for rock, and weather-appropriate clothing.

  • Headlamp, first aid, and sleeping bag if staying overnight at the Jubi bivouac.

4. Weather Considerations

  • Check forecasts carefully; storms, fog, or rain make the route extremely dangerous.

  • Avoid the ridge in wet conditions — rock becomes slippery, and exposure makes even short slips critical.

  • Be aware of late snow or ice patches, especially in early summer.

5. Timing & Logistics

  • 2 days suggested:

    1. Day 1: Reintal → Reintalanger Hut → Brunntalgrat → Jubi biwack

    2. Day 2: Jubi biwack → Alpspitze summit → Hammersbach descent

  • Start early, limited daylight and long distances make timing critical.

  • Always notify someone of your plan, or register with local alpine authorities if possible.

6. Emergency Options

  • Mountain rescue (Bergwacht Garmisch & Grainau) is available but response may take time due to remote and exposed terrain.

  • Know nearest huts and refuge points: Reintalanger Hut, Wiener-Neustädter Hut, Bockhütte.

7. Psychological & Physical Preparedness

  • Ridge is exposed for long sections; fear of heights can be amplified.

  • Be physically fit for long ascents, technical climbing, and carrying overnight gear.
