This hike crosses from Lenk im Simmental to Crans-Montana, starting in the green Bernese Oberland and finishing on the Valais side. It begins in the valley above Lenk, then climbs past the Iffigfall, one of the first real highlights of the route.
After that, the path keeps gaining height through pastures and open alpine terrain. Around Blattihubel, the landscape starts to feel wilder. The grass gives way to rockier ground, and the route moves into a more high-mountain setting below the Wildstrubel massif.
The highest section passes near the Wildstrubelhütte and crosses the Col de l’Arpochey, just under 2,900 metres. From there, the hike drops over to the Valais side, with a long descent above Icogne and Lens before reaching Crans-Montana.
The appeal of the route is the variety: the Simmental valley, the waterfall, the quiet high-altitude section, and then the wide descent toward Valais. It’s a big day out, though. With about 27 km and more than 2,200 m of ascent, this is a serious mountain hike for fit and experienced hikers.
