This demanding high-alpine loop in the Stubai Alps starts directly from the valley floor at Falbeson, beginning with a steady ascent along Trail No. 133. The path winds upwards through dense pine forest via a series of tight switchbacks, passing the historic Falbesoner Ochsenalm before breaking above the treeline into open alpine terrain. Pushing past thundering waterfalls along custom-built stone steps, you reach the expansive high moorland plateau of the Hohes Moos, where the Neue Regensburger Hütte sits perched at 2,286 meters.
From the hut, the route heads west deeper into the quiet glacial valley along Trail No. 138. Navigating pristine wetlands, wooden footbridges, and rocky glacial moraines left behind by the retreating ice, you gradually climb toward the foot of the Östliche Seespitze. The effort culminates at Falbesoner See, a striking, turquoise glacial lake situated at 2,575 meters. After taking in the raw high-mountain atmosphere, the trail backtracks along the valley floor to bring you back to the hut base.
The second major climb of the trek heads northeast, branching off the main Stubai High Trail and ascending the rugged boulder fields of the Schrimmenkar. The steep zigzags lead up to the Schrimmennieder pass at 2,714 meters, offering immediate views down into neighboring valleys. From the notch, following the open ridge eastward leads to the summit of Basslerjoch at 2,829 meters, rewarding you with vast 360-degree views across the main Alpine Ridge, surrounding glaciers, and the towering peak of the Habicht—all without requiring any Klettersteig gear or technical climbing.
To close the circuit, the route descends back from the summit ridge through the Schrimmenkar, joining the connecting trail that leads down toward Ochsenalm. From there, it re-enters the forest along Trail No. 133, tracing the original switchbacks all the way down the valley side to finish right back at the parking area in Falbeson.
