In winter snow will stay around for a long time on the last part of the way up to Wendelsteinhaus, in the Reindler Scharte and Zeller Scharte parts. The alternative would be to instead go around the peak to the west, and going up to Wendelsteinhaus from the south-west side.
This route goes only goes to the Wendelsteinhaus, and not up to the actual summit. Going up there will add almost exactly 100 height meters to the hike.
The route up from Brannenburg runs mostly parallel to the Wendelsteinbahn train tracks. There are a couple of places where the path actually crosses the tracks. In the beginning these are even level crossings, the last 2 crossings before Wendelsteinhaus have a tunnel under the tracks. The route runs past the "Aipl" station of the Wendelsteinbahn approximately halfway to Wendelsteinhaus.
