Fiderepasshütte (2067m) is a mountain hut in Allgaeu mountains, which is used as a base for several mountain peaks such as obsertdorfer hammerspitze (2260m), Walser hammerspitze (2170m), Schafalpenkoepfe, and several routes such as Krumbacher hoehenweg, mindelheimer klettersteig etc.
There are several routes to Fiderepasshütte. The one presented here is the one which is usually tried during early spring when other routes are still covered with snow.
Reaching the start point: The best way to reach the start point is to take regional trains from Munich to Oberstdorf, and then bus Line 1 from there to Mittelberg. Note that the bus ticket is not included in Bayern or Servus ticket (For a group of 10 or more people there is a discount, resulting in approximately 3.5 EUR/person one way ticket).
Ascent: From Mittelberg, we first walk on asphalt road for approximately 1 kilometer. The trail starts with a wide forest road which is almost flat. The route passes by a stream and two huts. After the second hut a steep zig-zag starts. As we go further, the route becomes narrower, but never really exposed.
After some flat part, the steep part begins again. This last part also has snow until late spring, so gaiters and spikes might be useful. At the end of steep part, the hut is already visible and can be reached after a walk of 100m on flat surface. There are nice views of Hammerspitze, Hochster Schfalpenkopf and some glimpses of Mindelheimer ferrata from the hut.
One may want to try Obsertdorfer Hammerspitze from the hut. However, the trail to the peak is not easy to find and requires scrambling up to grade 2, so this is recommended only for experienced hikers.
Descent: The same as the ascent
