Let´s go to the kingdom of hawks at the foot of the impressive huge limestone walls of Lalidererwände. You feel really small when you are close to it. Behind the Central Karwendel Chain there are some of the most beautiful valleys of Karwendel.
Karwendelhaus at the foot of the north face of the Lalidererwände in Karwendel, has really a great location. It lies just between the Großen and Kleinen Ahornboden (maple grounds), two natural monuments with hundred years old maple trees, considered to be one of the most beautiful spots in Tirol. The Große Ahornboden is next to the picturesque village alpine village of Eng. Here we start our hike. From Eng we go via the Hüttenweg and Hohljoch (ca. 2.5 hours) to Falkenhütte and then we keep going till we reach our overnight destination: Karwendelhaus. The day after we go to the highest summit of Karwendel: Birkkarspitze. The view from its summit on the walls of Central Karwendel Chain, Höhe Tauern and Zillertal is worth every effort to come there. We get down till Hinterautal valley where the Isar river starts flowing. The water wells out of the ground and joins the other streams and creeks of the valley to form the Isar river. The place is called “bei den Flüssen”, which means “at the rivers”, in this area various underground waters well out of the ground. Beautiful wide paths lead us to Scharnitz through the gently rising valley. The crystal clear water is shimmering in turquoise colours on the pebble. Information panels indicate that we’ve almost reached our destination: the Isar source. We have a well deserved break at Kastenalm and then we keep along the idillyc green valley till we reach our end point Scharnitz from where we head back home.
