Königsjodler - Hochkönig (2941 m)
One of the longest via ferratas in Austria. Although the route is "only" rated C/D, its extreme length at high altitude makes it one of the most difficult sport via ferratas in the Eastern Alps (the overall difficulty is comparable to a long, challenging D-rated via ferrata!).
Descent via the Hochkönig normal route: We descend past the gate pillar to the Mitterfeldalm, from there to the Arthurhaus. From the Arthurhaus back by bus to the parking lot (Erichhütte).
Type: Difficult mountain hike
Elevation gain: Approx. 1650m
Walking time: Ascent to via-ferrata: Approx. 2.00 hours, Via-Ferrata: Approx. 4.30 hours, Descent: Approx. 4.00 hours
Fitness level: High, very long climb
Category: C/D
Technique: Moderate, exposed trails, sure-footedness required
Equipment: Hiking gear, Via-Ferrata-Kit, helmet, plenty of water!
Day 1: Parkplatz Erichhütte - Königsjodler - Matrashaus
Day 2: Matrashaus - Arthurhaus - Erichhütte - Walchsee
Note: Please contact me before joining. This is a two-day tour. Overnight accommodation will be provided at the Matrashaus, as soon as space becomes available. If no free slots are available one week before the event, this event will be cancelled.
“The best view comes after the hardest climb.”
