Description

Hi everyone,

tomorrow (Sunday) will be another beautiful day that I'd like to spend in the mountains. The idea is to hike the whole of Nagelfluh ridge, from its start in Austria near Hittisau roundabout 30 km to its end near Blaichach.

To do so, we'll use public transport taking the first train / bus in the morning at 6 am to start our hike round 10. I plan on returning from Blaichach at around 6 pm so we'll be back in Munich around 8.

This is not a beginners' hike: Even though it is not especially difficult from a technical point of view, with 30 km it is lengthy and has a lot of elevation gain. Additionally, it will be pretty steep to both sides as we're on a ridge. Most of the time we'll do fast hiking, especially on the way up. On the ridge itself, we'll adapt to conditions there of course. On the way down I envision some slow trailrunning ;-)

As a reward, we'll enjoy one of the most beautifully ridges of the Allgäu alps with no less than 15 peaks and probably gorgeous views!

According to the landlady of Staufner Haus, conditions will be pretty good: This morning there was still some snow around, but with proper shoots/boots and sticks we should be fine. It might be a little wet though if the snow has just molten away.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Best wishes
Henning

Good to know

Please just contact me before the hike so we can be sure to have the same expectations.

We'll meet either at Munich central station track 31 at 6:15 or on the train there if it suits you more. I estimate costs around 7 € pp for the ticket.

Please bring:

  • Suitable boots (might be wet or even snowy)
  • Hiking poles
  • Cash (we won't stay at the hut for long but maybe have a quick spezi or so)
  • Sunglasses
  • Enough to drink (Staufner Haus will be the only hut on the way and it is rather at the beginning)

I'm not a mountain guide. Please keep in mind this is a hike along a ridge so if you don't like to have a profound abyss to your left and right this is probably not a good idea.
